1. Important – be sure to read this BEFORE you process your model
Make sure that all the required files are included in the upload:
Files |
Format | Other specifications |
OBJ and MTL Files | Wavefront OBJ | Local coordinate system, maximum 400 million polygons |
Textures | *.jpg or *.png | Resolution not more than 8192x8192 pixel, not more than 100 pieces |
Kameraparameterdatei | Block Exchange XML | Local coordinate system |
original images | *.jpg or *.png |
- Make sure that the import and export of the model happens in a LOCAL COORDINATE SYSTEM.TWINSPECT can NOT handle georeferenced coordinate systems (e.g. WGS84) yet. The model must be exported in WAVEFRONT OBJ format and must not exceed a size of 400 million polygons.
- The camera file must also be exported in a LOCAL COORDINATE SYSTEM. It must also be exported in Block Exchange XML format.
- The textures must always have a power of two as the number of pixels. Here, the highest resolution of a texture may be 8192x8192 pixels. The textures must be in *.jpg or *.png format. The number of textures must not exceed 100.
- Check your camera file (XML) again before uploading. Make sure that all images you want to see in TWINPSECT are present in this camera file. (During the upload your data will be validated again. Again, check the number of images in the validation overview).
- Please read the step by step instructions carefully. The red marked parts are very important and decide about the successful upload of your project.
2. Export your TWINSPECT® model
Align Photos
Once you have inserted the photos, press 'Workflow' in the menu and then 'Align Photos'.
Here you make the following settings:
Important:
If you move the point cloud again, you must repeat this step and then create the mesh.
If you move the whole mesh, you have to start again at the step "Align photos".
Build Mesh
Then go to "Build Mesh" in the "Workflow" menu and make the following settings:
Build Texture
After the mesh is created, you create the textures as follows under "Workflow" and then "Build Textures":
Important:
The texture size and number must be set differently for each model.
The larger the model, the more textures must be created.
The texture size must be set to 4k or 8k.
Export model
Export the generated model into a 3D mesh in the OBJ wavefront format. See below for the format options. By this, an OBJ file of the model with the corresponding textures will be generated.
Note: please make sure to choose the correct coordinate system, and to choose the same coordinate system for both the model and cameras export.
Export Cameras
After exporting the model into the OBJ format, please export the cameras into the blocks exchange format as an XML file. For this, please click on “File” and ”Export Cameras…” (see screenshot below).
Save Dialog: Then, the save dialog will show up. Please choose a filename and select the “Blocks Exchange (*.xml)” format and click on “Save”.
Export Cameras Dialog Finally, the following dialog will show up.
Note: please make sure to have deselected the red highlighted check boxes for the tie points and control points. Further, please make sure to have selected the same coordinate system as you chosen when exporting the 3D model.
When clicking on “OK“, the corresponding XML file will be generated that can be used to import the original inspection photos into TWINSPECT.
Important:
Make sure that all the required files are included in the upload:
- OBJ files
- MTL files
- textures (must not be larger than 16k. However, 8k is optimal for our program)
- camera file
- original images (*.jpg or *.png format)
