Editing a shape
A shape on an image can be changed after you have drawn it. There are two routes to the same goal: adjust it handle by handle, or draw a replacement outline. Adjusting suits a shape that is nearly right. Redrawing suits one in the wrong place or the wrong size, where nudging every point takes longer than drawing it again. Neither loses the observation: only the outline changes, and the name, class, severity, fields and files stay as they are.
Click the shape once to select it. Handles appear around it. Which handles you get depends on the kind of shape.

Moving and rotating
Drag the move handle to reposition the whole shape without changing its size.
Rectangles and areas also have a rotate handle. Drag it to tilt the shape.
Resizing
- Rectangle: drag any of the four corner handles.
- Circle: drag the radius handle outward or inward.
Areas and lines are not resized as a whole. You change their outline by moving individual points instead.
Reshaping an area or a line
These shapes are made of points, and you can change each one.
Move a point: drag it.
Add a point: each segment has a small + at its midpoint. Click it to insert a point there, then drag the new point where you need it. Use this when an outline needs more detail than you first gave it.
Remove a point: right-click it.
An area keeps at least three points and a line at least two. Once a shape is down to its minimum, removing another point does nothing.
Redrawing the outline instead
There are two ways to start a redraw, and both do the same thing:
- The pencil handle on the shape. Select the shape, then click the pencil.
- The observation's menu. With the observation open in the details panel, use the ⋮ menu and choose Edit shape.
Once a redraw is armed, draw the new shape exactly as you drew the first one, using the same gestures as in Marking damage on an image. The moment you finish the new shape, it replaces the old one.
The original stays untouched until then. Nothing is lost while you are mid-redraw, so there is no risk in starting one to see how it goes.
To cancel, press Esc. A redraw is also cancelled if you put the drawing tool away from the toolbar, or select a different observation. In every case the original survives. You can only lose the old outline by completing a new one.
A redraw keeps the observation selected and its details panel open throughout, where drawing a brand-new shape clears your selection. You can see the class and severity you are preserving while you redraw.
Your changes are held until you save
Moving a shape, dragging a point, and adding or removing one all wait for Save changes in the detail panel. Discard puts the shape back as it was.
Pressing Esc in the middle of a drag cancels that drag and keeps the shape selected. Pressing it again deselects, which asks what to do with anything unsaved. See Saving your observations.
Why can't I edit a shape?
