Organising observations into groups
Groups keep a long observation list manageable. Group by structure (Pier 1, Pier 2, Deck), by inspection round, or however your team works.
Creating a group
Click Group at the top of the observation list, type a name, and confirm.
Putting observations into a group
Drag an observation onto the group. You can drop it:
- into a group, or
- before or after another row, to reorder.
Dragging onto a collapsed group opens it after a moment, so you can drop into a specific position inside.
Creating a group from several observations at once
Quicker than dragging them one at a time:
- Tick the checkbox on each observation you want. You can also use the range selection described in Managing your observation list.
- Open the ⋮ menu at the top of the list.
- Choose Create group and name it.
The selected observations move into the new group. Move to group… does the same thing for a group that already exists.
Renaming a group
Use the group's ⋮ menu and choose Rename.
Counts
Each group shows how many observations it holds. The count includes observations in any nested groups, so a group's number is always the full total beneath it.
Deleting a group deletes everything in it
Deleting a group also deletes every observation inside it, including those in nested groups. The confirmation says so, and it cannot be undone.
To keep the observations, drag them out of the group first, then delete the empty group.
Why can't I organise the list?
| What you see | What it means |
| No Group button | You do not have permission to create observations. |
| Dragging does nothing | You do not have permission to change observations, or the list is still saving. Wait a moment and try again. |
| A brand-new observation will not drag | It is still being saved. It becomes draggable once saved. |
| Rename is greyed | You do not have permission to change observations. |
