Preparing to upload a project

Preparing to upload a project

A short checklist to run through before you start. Everything here is quicker to sort out now than halfway through an upload.

You need

  • Access to a workspace, and permission to create projects in it.
  • Your data exported from your photogrammetry software. See the export guides for your software.
  • Enough storage in your organization for the project.
  • Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge, on a desktop computer.

Chrome or Edge, on the computer holding your files

Uploading needs a browser feature that lets the page read directly from your hard drive. Safari and Firefox cannot upload. You can still sign in and view projects in them.

The files must be on the computer you are uploading from, or on a drive it can reach. The upload reads from your disk as it goes rather than copying everything first.

Your three exports

What Notes
3D tileset A zipped tileset or a .3tz, from any supported tool
Camera parameters A single file for most tools; an OPF folder for Pix4Dmatic
Original images The folder of .jpg or .png images used in the reconstruction

If your project has no photography behind it, the tileset is enough on its own. See Uploading a 3D model without images.

RealityScan projects using local coordinate systems cannot be imported. Geo-referenced exports work for every supported tool.

Storage

If the project is larger than your remaining storage, you will see Storage limit reached and cannot continue. The message tells you the project size and what you have available. Free space by deleting unused projects, or talk to us about more storage.

Permission to create projects

Open Project Drafts and look at the New project button:

  • Available: you are ready to go.
  • Greyed out: hover it. The tooltip says why, usually a licence limit.
  • A message instead of the wizard: demo accounts cannot upload.

Before you start the wizard, have these to hand

  • The project name you want.
  • The asset type (bridge, building, and so on).
  • Which reconstruction software produced the export.
  • Which Observation Profile the project should use, if your team has more than one. See Setting up Observation Profiles.

You can change all of these later, but having them ready makes step 1 a single pass.
